Saline Farmers Market
On Saturday morning, I had the pleasure of playing my first Farmers Market in Saline, MI.
With it being so close to Valentine’s Day, “Love and Heartbreak” was an obvious theme because some love the holiday, and others not so much. My songs represented the theme well and included some country ballads such as When you Say Nothing at All, The Dance, If Tomorrow Never Comes, and I Cross My Heart. I also played other cover hits such as the Goodbye Girl, Weekend in New England, Come Away with Me, and True Colors.
What I learned from this first-time experience, is that it’s a bit of balance playing an indoor farmers market and being both ambience for the vendors and customers (aka background fill) and being loud enough to hear myself sing authentically.
I had a great time and two-hours went quickly. I met some really nice folks at the market, and most importantly, I connected with people through music. It was nice to see people stop to sing with me, relating to the song or the memory it invoked. I also received the ultimate compliment from someone who told me that he was surprised to both like me and find that I was a storyteller through music.
